Could a trade be looming on the horizon?
By Brian Miller
The Miami Dolphins have added 23 new players to the roster as of September 11th. The additions of Donovin Darius and Lamont Thompson bring that number to 25. Yet, it appears that the tweaking, or rather overhall of the roster is not quite finished for the year. Or at least it may not be. Could their be a trade looming for the Dolphins?
Speculation has been running rampant since before the draft that Marty Booker was on the block, that Chris Chambers was on the block, Ronnie Brown perhaps. Now there seems to be a possible indication that the Fins might make a move prior to the trade deadline in week 6.
In his alternating weekly column on MiamiDolphins.com, Randy Mueller had this to say when questioned about the roster:
"“We’re still looking at rosters around the league. The trading deadline is Week 6 so we’ll be exploring a lot of that. Who has an excess that they are maybe willing to part with for a price. We’ll be tweaking our roster because now we’re not only down to 53, but we’re down to dressing 45. That exercise itself will pose some questions the first couple of weeks. Those players between 45 and 53, their value changes depending on who dresses. We’ll be tweaking those spots. “"
“A Lot of that“, he says. So the speculation is and will be “WHO” is the likely player/s to be traded? For who would be the next question.
At first thought, all 3 names mentioned would immediately have to come to mind when thinking about a trade. Perhaps Chambers comes to mind first and foremost as he may have the most real value now of the 3.
In regards to Brown, his name will be mentioned if he continues to ride behind another back…Chatman is injured and his status is still unclear for the week 2 game vs. Dallas, or if a top RB somewhere should go down to injury.
What this says is that neither Cameron or Mueller are satisfied with what they have on the field, presumably on offense. The offensive line has to be giving Cameron and Houck fits as neither are used to starting such a raw bunch.
So would the Dolphins trade for Oline help? Or would they trade for an Oline long term fix? That is a question that bears watching. Perhaps they decide enough is enough and if Miami is sitting below the .500 mark, they move those guys for draft picks next year.
So many questions. Very few real answers. What we do know is that Mueller and Cameron are not done yet. At least not done trying. What happens next, if anything does, will occur sometime in the next 4 to 5 weeks.
