Power Rankings
By Brian Miller
As we head into the 3rd week of the season teams are starting to show who they are. For some, that is a good thing, for others, Pre-season was over with 4 weeks ago…time to get started. The Miami Dolphins have dropped a little further as well this week after their loss to the Cowboys. Last weeks rank is in parenthesis.
1:
(1) No change as the Colts stay number 1
2:
(3) The Patriots put a down home whopping on the San Diego Chargers last Sunday night. Cheating or no cheating, they are pressing hard to be number 1.
3:
(2) The Chargers got a rude awakening last week vs. NE. Tomlinson looks far removed from the MVP season he had last year.
4: (4) For 3 quarters last week, it looked like they might drop. Then they put up a boatload to beat our Miami Dolphins.
5:
(11) Way too high for this team and it is not likely they will stay here, but they are winning and it hasn’t been close. The defense has only given up a total of 10 points. 7 of those to a Browns team who scored in the closing minutes of week 1.
6:
(6) The Bears were able to beat KC who is struggling on both sides of the ball. They have another rough go it in week 3 as they play the Cowboys in Dallas.
7:
(5) This is the team that is supposed to be contending for the NFC side of the Super Bowl. They go out and get beat by Arizona. Just a bump? or more of an issue. We will find out this week.
8:
(10) A two spot jump for Baltimore as their offense is playing better now and their defense is, well, the best.
9:
(12) The Broncos keep finding a way to win. For the 2nd week, it’s by a field goal at the end of the game.
10:
(8) The Panthers found out how good the Houston Texans are becoming as they got whipped. They are a better team that what was on the field last Sunday, or so it would seem. Another ugly loss like that, and they will be dropping more than just 2 spots.
11:
(14) The 49ers are looking good these days. Their defense looks very solid. The play of Patrick Willis, rookie LB, is impressive. Can they continue to grow?
12:
(15) The Skins are playing good ball right now. After beating up on the Eagles Monday night, they get their first shot at downing the Giants on Sunday.
13:
(7) The Bengals started out ranked 13, moved up to 7 and now back to 13. After what happened in Cleveland, they deserve to fall a lot further.
14:
(24) I thought this team was a joke. I had them ranked 24th last week, a defense that is playing well and Favre looking closer to what he used to rather than headed to a nursing home. 10 spot jump for the 2-0 team.
15:
(13) The Giants got manhandled by the Packers. At 0-2, they are going in the wrong direction in a division that 1 game can mean the season.
16:
(16) This is a team that has some serious issues and it starts at QB. Maybe McNabb should concentrate on doing his job instead of making noise in the media…wasn’t that something he didn’t like about T.O.?
17:
(19) They lose and move up two spots instead of down. The defense is playing very good, the offense? Not so much. They got beat by a much improved Detroit team at the end of the game. Lets see what they do without Jackson behind center who is injured.
18:
(26) Have to give these guys credit. They are playing as well as most other teams. Shutting down the Panthers was impressive. They have Indy this week, could another big jump happen in the next ranking?
19:
(25) Another team who deserves some credit. Their offense finally looks like it is supposed to. Their defense although not great by any means, is playing well enough to win. The Detroit Lions at 2-0? Lets see how they do against better teams.
20:
(22) Last week they almost pulled one over on the Colts but fought to the end and lost by 2 points.
21:
(17) The Rams need to get their “high-powered” offense in high gear. Steven Jackson making a scene on the sidelines is not a good sign.
22:
(21) Can’t stop the run and can’t stop the pass. Their offense is not much better.
23:
(28) The Cardinals don’t deserve to be this high, but considering that they have been beaten in a close game with SF and then beat Seattle, kind of hard to find where they really go. So I will let them determine what happens next.
24:
(18) The Bills put up a monster score of 3 against the Steelers. Good!
25:
(29) Don’t laugh, they don’t actually look that bad this year. O.k. they just look better than teams ranked below them.
26:
(23) A tough loss to the Cowboys. Miami has been beaten by two very good teams, they drop because last week was one of the poorest displays I have witnessed. For Miami, the season starts now with the NY Jets.
27:
(20) Like Miami the Jets have faced 2 tough teams, but they have not looked all that impressive in their two losses either…they rank below Miami for cheating against the Ravens!
28:
(27) They lost to the Bears so it is not that bad, what is bad is the way the offense is playing, and the defense doesn’t look that good either. Larry Johnsons’ hold out hurt the team…but was that his fault our the grandstanding Carl Peterson?
29:
(30) They move up one spot for beating the Aints.
30:
(32) Beating the Bengals means nothing. They move up because they are not as bad as Atlanta and New Orleans.
31:
(31) No change, but with a loss why should there be when they are at the bottom? Maybe new QB Byron Leftwich can salvage something.
32:
(11) Many will not agree, but hey, this is my personal ranking and to be honest, this team just flat sucks. They have the same talent as last year with only a quarter of the production. 1 game away from their first Super Bowl to the garbage they are putting out there now? Makes you wonder.
