End for Jason Allen Appears on the Horizon

It was a failed experiment, it was a failed draft pick.  In the 2006 NFL draft 32 teams made selections in the first round.  Of those 32 teams only 4 players are not starting.  Of those 4, only 1 player does not contribute significantly.  His name?  Jason Allen.  The Miami Dolphins 16th overall pick in the 06 draft is one step closer to wearing the official bust label.  The end of his career with the Phins appears to be on the horizon.

Cam Cameron has moved the college corner-back back to free safety.

"“He and I had a long talk today,” Cameron said. “I said, ‘Jason, it’s your time to start becoming a player.’ ” ”We’re going to take him, we’re going to put him at free safety, and he’s going to make or break at free safety as of today,” Cameron added."

Allen has spent time trying to learn both safety and corner spots and up to this point has failed at both of them.   In fact, Allen has spent more time on special teams than playing in an already weak secondary that is screaming for help.  It appears, according to Cameron, that this will likely be the end of Jason Allen, if he can not make it at free-safety, look for Allen to find himself unemployed at the end of the season, if not sooner.  Travis Daniels could find himself on the unemployment line as well.

Daniels has been told by Cameron that it is time to forget the past 5 games and go out there and play like he did in training camp.  Daniels who was torched by Antuan Randal-El in the first week of the season, has found life at the safety position no cupcake either.  The move back to Daniels marks what could also be the beginning of the end for a draft pick that two years ago held so much promise.  Injuries and erratic play has put him in this position.

Cameron has gone on to say that he does not believe that there will be another switch in terms of these guys moving back and forth.  If they can’t cut it now, it appears to be over for both of them.

In other Dolphins news, Jason Taylor has an undisclosed neck injury that has kept him out of practice, the injury to Derek Hagan is a hamstring, Samson Satele returned to practice, Vonnie Holliday has not been medically cleared to practice yet, Trent Green is recovering,  and  will be listed as the emergency quarterback for the game against Cleveland.
