Want to Buy an NFL Franchise? Phins May be for Sale

The Miami Dolphins had a long tradition of competitive excellence, they are a team that over the last 10 years has fallen in that regard little by little and rock bottom, for the first time, is in sight.

Now, on the day that those very Dolphins go into Cleveland to try and finally get their first victory of the season, a new rumor is taking center stage. The Miami Dolphins may be for sale. Do you want to buy an NFL Franchise?

According to FoxSports John Czarnecki, Wayne Huizenga is seriously listening to offers for his Miami Franchise.

Lets break this down a little bit more. The validity of the report is not proven but it does make sense. Wayne Huizenga and his wife love the Miami Dolphins, but they are getting to the point where the future will have to be taken into account and their heirs are not showing much interest in taking the team for the long haul.

Financially the Dolphins are in a good position as high priced players are on the tail end of their career and the salary cap is finally a manageable number. With a new head coach and a youth movement on the team in general, the Dolphins could draw quite a bit of interest.

Of course the first thought that will come to many a minds is the word relocation. The Dolphins fan base is one of the worst in the NFL unless the team is winning, I speak from the experience of being at the stadium and listening to crickets chirp and opposing fans making more noise. Los Angeles wants an NFL franchise. That will be the scariest part of any final deal.

However, there could be some good news. There were rumors only a few years ago that Dan Marino wanted to get into ownership, Don Shula as well has talked about it. With Don having the support of his family in Dave and Mike, it may not be a reach to think that both Dan and Don could be part owners with a major player. Both or even one would surely secure the franchise in South Florida for another 20 years or so, if not for good.

Of course this is all nothing more than my own mind running wild with conjecture, but lets face it, Wayne very well may want to sell this team. Of course that will breed debate, rumor, and a whole lot more among fans that both think a change is necessary and those that think the problems with the team lie elsewhere.

One thing is for certain. The comments of one John Czarnecki will definitely get fans talking and speculating. The Miami Dolphins have a future that has been clouded from bad draft picks to a new head coach that is still trying to get his first win. Now, it appears that the gray skies over Miami may have some other questions shrouded in it as well.
