Cameron aware of the past

facebooktwitterreddit

Say what you want about the Miami Dolphins, say what you want about Cam Cameron.  One thing appears to be a little clearer, Cameron is aware of the Dolphins past.

The Miami Dolphins have a history that dates back to their first loss in a Super Bowl to Dallas.  Always contenders for the AFC East, for the playoffs, for the Super Bowl, until…Jimmy Johnson arrived.

You see, Jimmy wanted no mention of the past, he wanted no mention of the 72 team, coach Shula, or anything previous to the arrival of Jimmy Johnson.  That was carried over through Wannstedt and then again with Saban.

Now, it appears that at the core of Cam Cameron, the same guy who talks about family and commitment to each other,  there may be a leaning towards the greatness that once was the class of the NFL.

Sure, we are 0-6 and the possibilities of this team having the distinct dishonor of being the first NFL franchise to go 0-16 is a strong possibility.  Fitting that we are the only team to ever go 17-0 as well.  Whether or not Cameron will bring this franchise to another Super Bowl is far removed at the moment, and speculation will only get anyone so far.  But this guy is a little different.

In a post game message to his players Cameron said,

"‘‘When you get tired of feeling the way we feel right now — sick and tired of it — maybe then things will change,” went Cameron’s message to his players afterward. “We’re not feeling sorry for ourselves. I don’t feel sorry for me. The guy I feel sorry for is [owner] Wayne Huizenga, and our former players, and our fans.”"

Greg Cote referenced this in his Herald article today.  The fact that finally a coach mentions the past.  “I feel sorry for our former players.”

For the first time since Don Shula was the coach of the Dolphins, a head coach has recognized the historical value of this team.  He recognized the value of its’ fans.  Cam Cameron at least knows enough about this team to realize that there is a history here that has been long forgotten.

He may not be the man to lead us to the Super Bowl.  He may not be the man to lead us to the playoffs.  He may though, be the man to lead us back to self respectability.  This team could use some of that as well.
