Week 7 Power Rankings

Scroll to the bottom for the Miami Dolphins.  Here are the new power rankings for week number 7.
1:  For the first 6 weeks, I have said that until NE beats Indy, they would not be number 1.  After watching them make short work of Dallas, I realize that if Indy wants to be number 1, last years Super Bowl doesn’t cut it anymore.

2:

The Colts have one of the best offenses in the league, unfortunately it no longer is the best.  If they want to be number one, they will have to beat NE.

3:

The Cowboys felt the wrath of the Patriots.  Still, I think they are still better than 29 other teams.

4:

The Steelers continue to perform well under rookie HC Mike Tomlin.

5:

The Packers rebounded from a loss with a nice victory against the Redskins.  Good teams find ways to win games that they are losing in.  The Packers found a way to win.

6:

A solid yet unspectacular offense that plays with consistency keeps the defense fresh.  They are only the best defense in the league.

7:

The Bolts’ have decided to move up a notch as they seemed to have turned a corner the last two weeks.  Finally, they looked like a team that played in SD last year that had the same logo on their helmets.

8:

Eli Manning has this offense starting to look like an offense.  Suddenly with the Dallas loss, the Giants are in a position to compete for the division…o.k. well not yet anyways.

9:

This is the last week at number 9 if they can’t beat the Eagles, their defense will not be able to hold this season together.

10:

Washington got beat by a very solid Green Bay team, but they led late and it was a mistake that cost them.  They are getting better.

11:

Shaun Alexander has rushed for the lowest two game yardage totals in his career.  Thats pretty low.  The Seahawks lost to the previously winless Saints.  That’s lower.

12:

Although I do not think the Bucs are for real yet, they are playing good enough to take the division.  Now, with the addition of Michael Bennett it appears that they will at least have a serviceable back in TB.

13:

The Jags will face off with division rival Indy this Sunday.  Historically over the last several years, the Jags have given the Colts fits.  Here is to hoping for another “fit”.

14:

Cincy lost to a KC team that is trying to find their identity.  The cause for alarm here is not the defense that really just plain sucks, it was the piss poor performance of the offense led by Carson Palmer.  We will see if this becomes a trend when the Bengals face off against the 1-5 Jets.

15:

A Youngless Titans could not beat the Bucs, still, the Titans have a top 5 defense vs. the run and the injury to Vince Young appears to be only a strain.  So they will be hoping.

16:

Jay Cutler, everyones infatuation last year has thrown 6 interceptions this year and the Broncos defense is dead last in rushing, that should make Miami fans happy anyways.  Javon Walker returns this week, so maybe Cutler can reduce the completions that start with the letter “I”.

17:  I have never much cared for the 49ers, but this team shows some potential.  They are playing strong and fast and with the struggles of Seattle, the division is up for the taking.
18: The Vikings have a very good run stopping defense, a very good rookie in Adriene Peterson, what they don’t have is a strong defensive secondary.  Dallas comes calling them this week.  They better find one soon.

19:

Sunday was perhaps the worst game that the Texans have played all year.  They are a better team than what showed up in the 37 to 17 route by the Jaguars.

20:

The Chiefs are almost starting to play like a team again.  Almost.  Still, they have a shot at their once strong division that now resembles the AFC East without New England.

21:

The Lions are playing decent football, but it is starting to get a little sloppier on defense.  They can not allow themselves a swoon this early in the season.

22:

Donavin McNabb could not throw more than 1 touchdown against the Jets?  That is not a sign that McNabb is almost back to the way he used to be.  Something is wrong with the Eagle QB.  Now we know why they drafted Kolb.

23:

The Raiders took a history lesson on Sunday as they  looked back to what they were last year.  Call it a throwback to the 06 scoreboard.

24:

The Browns did not just beat Miami, they owned Miami.

25:

I thought about whether or not they are better, worse, or the same as the Cardinals.  Then I remembered they had Testaverde…yes, Vinny, and the Cardinals have, Tim Hasselbeck?

26:

See the Panthers above.

27:

The Jets put up a battle with the Giants and almost had it won.  Had it not been for the play of Chad Pennington, they might have won their 2nd game.  Chad’s inconsistent play keeps them mired at the bottom with the rest of the “going nowheres’”

28:

I am still seething about the loss to the Cowboys.  Their bye week had to suck.

29:

The Falcons managed to crawl back under the rock as they got hammered by the Giants.

30:

Well, the Saints went marching in and beat Seattle, winless no more, and no longer at the bottom of the rankings either.

31:

The Rams are winless, the Dolphins are winless, the Rams get one spot better because they have Holt and Bulger is coming back.  It is now a two team race to the first pick in next Aprils draft.

32:

Well, I guess if you can’t be the absolute best of the best teams, then be the best of the worst teams…if you ever wanted to see what it might look like to have the number one overall pick in the draft, then go to NFLdraftcountdown.com and check out their mock.  “With the first pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins select….
