The "Tuna" to become "Albacore"? New Phins GM?
By Brian Miller
They call Bill Parcells the “Tuna“, but that could change this off-season and Bill may change his name to “The Albacore“. Albacore is the type of tuna that is caught in Dolphin friendly nets. Seems like a logical change if Parcells becomes the next GM for the Miami Dolphins. As it is rumored.
According to, once again, Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports, sources close to the Tuna have said that Bill has expressed interest in the Dolphins not yet vacated GM job. But not as a HC.
According to this report, Parcells has a good relationship with Wayne Huizenga and has played golf with the Dolphins owner. Parcells has publicly stated that he would be interested in returning to football, but only as a general manager.
On the surface that sounds like it may be nothing more than one man rambling to get readers….right Cole? It is though beneath the surface that makes this rumor du’ jour, seem to have more than just a nibble on the end of the dangling line.
Consider that earlier it was reported by Cole that according to “sources” within the Dolphins organization, John Beck would be starting against the Bills after the return from London following the bye week. His report states that high ranking Dolphins officials want to know what they have with Beck.
Now, this is only my own personal opinion on the matter, but IF both rumors have some truth to them, then this “start Beck now” rumor, could simply be a matter of not evaluating Beck as much as it is about evaluating Randy Mueller who could likely take the fall for this horrendous season.
Randy would have been out of a job in Miami this year, had Nick Saban stayed. Wayne Huizenga is conducting an internal revue of this team and it would only seem natural that at the conclusion of that “revue” someone had their rear-end on a barbeque spit. Since the chances of it being a 1st year head coach are slime, it makes more sense for that head to come from a GM who has already taken quite a bit of criticism over the drafting of one Ted Ginn Jr.
In any case, if you thought that last years offseason was a high octane search for a new head coach, the very direction that this team could be taking may very well hand in the balance of who gets fired, and who gets hired…yet again.
Whether they call him “Albacore” or keep the name “Tuna”, Bill Parcells brings with him something that no head coach or GM has been able to bring to the Miami Dolphins since the “retirement” of Don Shula…Credibility.
