ATW Answered: Will Beck Make a Difference

Last week we posed the question to you, will John Beck make a difference?  Almost a moot point with todays announcement by the Miami Dolphins that Cleo Lemon would remain the starter.

Still, we asked, and YOU answered.  Here are your answers!

"I believe Beck will make a difference, now.Cleo Lemon can run Cam’s offense effectively.  Taking care of the ball has been a problem.  What I don’t see him capable of is making the big play.  Sure he can make an occasional play with his legs but not his arm.  This is why, I believe, he will always be a career backup.  I like the guy and would not mind if the Dolphins kept him around as the #2 or #3 QB for a couple more years.IMO, Beck could come in right now and run the offense just aseffectively and take care of the ball a little better.  We do have toexpect a few rookie mistakes.  The big difference we should see from Beck is the big play with his arm.  His accuracy and arm strength exceeds both QB’s who have started for the Dolphins this year.Look at how Peyton Manning spreads and stretches a defense because of his accuracy and strong arm.  (I know, look at his WR corps)  Not putting Beck in the same boat as Peyton 🙂 but I believe Beck has that potential to cause problems for the secondary and stretch defenses with his accuracy and strong arm and that is the difference he could provide now.  I believe we would see more 7’s on the board than 3’s."

George from Maine:

"John Beck will absolutely make a difference.  He may not make a difference in the win loss column this year but he will certainly make a difference in the direction of our team in the near future.  John Beck needs to start now!  It’s pretty much a foregone conclusion that the Dolphins are looking at a top 5, most likely a top 3 pick in next year’s draft.  I think as an organization it’s imperative that we see what John Beck can do this year.  I don’t expect him to come in and have alot more success than Lemon.  But I do want to see if he’s making the right reads, is he making adjustments between series, halves, games?  Is he making good decisions?  I think it’s evident he has the ability to play QB in the NFL.  We need to know if he has the mental side of the game.  I think this is more of an urgent issue as we’ve already lost two years of his career (potentially) due to his 2 year Mormon mission.  The difference he makes is that if he plays and the coaches can make a fair assessment then we will know whether QB is once again a priority going into the draft.  Having a high pick allows us to pick a top rated QB.  This is how I think John Beck makes a difference."

JKatzmark:

"Yes, playing John Beck will make a difference. It will give direction on how we draft next year. The one thing that is unfortunate, with Ronnie Brown being injured, he does not have all the cards in the deck."

"I think he is going to have a favorable impact and a successful NFL career."
