Blame This Loss on Cameron

The Miami Dolphins had yet another chance to get their first win, and like so many times before in this season, they lost it in the end, the 6th game this season of a 3 point or less margin.  Only this time, you can blame the loss on Cam Cameron.

I have been round and round with many fans, readers, forum members, and so on, about where the blame in each of the losses should go, I have defended Cameron at every turn while recognizing he has made mistakes, just not mistakes that cost us a win.  Against Pittsburgh, he made two critical mistakes that cost the Dolphins a chance at a victory.

4th and 11, and 4th and 16.  It wasn’t about going for the first and not trying a field goal on the 3″ deep sod holes left from the rain,  what it was about, was field position.  In a game that was so close, Camerons’ decision to not punt, cost the Miami defense field position, and kept the Steelers out of their own side of the field.  Something they did not see most of the game.  That is Cam Camerons’ fault and as the game wound down to the final minutes, the latter of the two would allow Pittsburgh to move downfield, eat up the clock, and in the end, win the game.

Ricky Williams did not start, but he saw action early, and saw the trainers table before the end of the half.  His injury will be the center of discussion this week at the training center.  Cameron was hounded to play an out of shape running back coming off suspension, he did, his RB got hurt, and now he will be hounded about why he played him.  It is a cruel world in the media.

If losing Ricky wasn’t bad enough, it only took another quarter to lose Jesse Chatman, leaving Patrick Cobbs as the only option at running back.  The Steelers knew that and changed their defense strategy and blitzed John Beck more often.  It worked as Beck went down for at least 3 sacks.

Beck did not play a bad game and given the surrounding conditions and weather, his passes looked more accurate on most occassions, and he showed signs of improving, but for the second week in a row, John Beck threw not interceptions.  He threw no touchdowns either.  This was the 2nd week that the offense who once looked like it had turned a corner, has not scored a point in two weeks.  That too is the fault of Cam Cameron>
