We here at Phinphanatic are pleased to present for you an exclusive interview with Miami Dolphins reigning NFL Defensive MVP of the year, Jason Taylor, through the cooperation of the Home Depot Neighborhood MVP Program.

We were able to speak with Jason through the Home Depot Neighborhood MVP program which is designed to help communities across the country build play areas for children and rebuild playing fields in a partnership with KaBOOM!.  This year Home Depot has chosen 17 finalists for the HDNMVP, those finalists along with the Home Depot programs’ fact sheet can be read here.  You can also cast your vote for you choice at www.HomeDepot.com/NFL.  The winner, who will be voted on by fans from across the country will receive a $25,000 donation made to his charity of choice.

The real winners of course are the children of Americas’ home communities.  Please take a moment and follow one of the links to Home Depot Neighborhood MVP or to KaBOOM! and see how you too can help in your community.

On Tuesday, December 18th, Jason Taylor participated with other local Miami volunteers and members of the Home Depot program to work within the community toward bettering an area for local children at Bay Point School.  Jason took the time to answer a few of our questions about what the program means to him and a few questions about the Dolphins as well.  We here at Phinphanatic would especially like to thank the hard work and dedication of all volunteers who help around the country in making programs such as these such a success.  We would also like to thank the hard diligent work of MH for her dedicated work to the program and allowing us to learn more about it.

PP:  How has working with the Home Depot Neighborhood MVP Program changed your life and does your family help out as well?

JTMy wife was going to be here today but she was in a car accident and couldn’t come.  This is great, you get to come out and be hands on paint, put sod down, help build things and a lot of involvement with the kids that benefit from it.  I know it means a lot to them to be able to get their hands dirty and make their own field and refurbish their own playground.  We get to spend time with the kids and give them some insight, whatever I have to give them, some hope and put a smile on their face for a day.

PP:  You have always been involved with the Miami Community, how does this program affect peoples lives from your point of view?

JTHome Depot has done a great job of putting their money where their mouth is so to speak, putting up $50,000 to refurbish public parks and it is actual tangible things that the kids can see, feel, touch, and see everyday, so that means a lot to the community.  With all the communities around the nation that Home Depot is getting their hands involved in is great and obviously my heart and soul is in Miami so it means a lot to everybody here.

PP:  You have been a Miami Dolphin for 10 years now.  Who do you see on this team now, that in another 10 years will be in that same leadership role both on the field and in the community?

JTProbably Ronnie Brown, John Beck, and whoever else they draft this year.  Those guys are the future of this organization and the future leaders of this team and in the community so it’s incumbent on us as veterans to try and instill those values and show them the right way to do things.

PP:  What side of the ball do you think the Dolphins should spend their first pick on in the draft and what player?

JTThat’s tough to say.  I will probably stay on defense.  I’m a defensive player and I’m biased, so I am going to stay on defense and pick a defensive lineman.  Probably Glenn Dorsey out of….’Maybe’ Glenn Dorsey out of LSU.

Due to a tight schedule, the rest of the questions that we had prepared for Jason were not able to be asked.  Thanks very much again to the Home Depot Neighborhood MVP program and especially MH for her hard work in making this possible and again we urge you at the very least follow one of the links and see what you can do to get involved.

The audio file of this interview will be available on Monday after it airs live on Friday’s FinsRadio.net show with Michael and Dave
