Coaching Candidate Updates

Here is a quick list of Miami Dolhins assistant coaching candidates and what may be going on with them.

Paul Pasqualoni  – The rumor is that he is up for the Defensive Coordinator job.  Pasq is currently under contract with the Cowboys until 12:01 Am on Tuesday when that contract expires.  Until that time, he is not permitted to talk to any other team about joining their staff.  It has been rumored that he has been offered the job, however, officially, that is not true.  Jerry Jones has met with Pasq and has offered him an extension.  He is supposedly thinking it over.  Most mainstream media persons believe that he will join Tony Sparano in Miami on Wednesday if not on Tuesday.

Todd Bowles –  The rumor is that he too will leave the confines of Valley Ranch and take his biz to Southbeach.  The Cowboys secondary coach is expected to become the new Assistant Head Coach/Defense under Sparano.  Like Pasq, Bowles can not leave until Tuesday when his contract expires.  Jones has offered him an extension as well and met with Bowles yesterday.  Bowles has said he will try and give Jones an answer on Sunday.

Chris Palmer – The rumor is that he will be the next Dophins offensive coordinator.  Palmer was the coach that gave Tony Sparano his first coaching gig…a favor likely to be returned in bringin the NY Giants QB coach to Miami with a promotion.  Sparano spoke exceptionally high of Palmer in his HC press conference.  The Dolphins may not speak to Palmer until the Giants are eliminated from the playoffs.

Kacy Rodgers – The rumor is that Rodgers will also leave the Dallas Cowboys and join the Dolphins.  However it is not know what his role would be at this time.  Rodgers currently is the Cowboys defensive line coach.  He may keep that same position in Miami with a unit who desperately needs some help.  According to an ESPN report Jones has offered him an extension as well.

Karl Dorrell – The rumor is that Dorrell has been offered the WR coaching position for the Phins.  Dorrell most recently spent his NFL time in Denver in the same position.  He was fired this year as the UCLA head coach.  Dorrell reportedly has been offered the same job by Denver and Kansas City and the word is that he is leaning towards the KC job.

Bob Trott – According to Armando Salguero of the Miam Herald, Trott could be a candidate for a defensive coaching position.  Trott currently is a defensive assistant with the Browns.

For now it seems that Sparano is concentrating his efforts on the defensive side of the ball.  That may be due to the fact that Palmer is still in NY.  Palmer would likely bring some ideas and possibly some people to the coaching staff as the OC.    However, the Dolphins have added two offensive coaches already.

HIRED:

David Lee – Lee was hired before Sparano was.  He was supposed to be the OC for Houston Nutt and instead left the college ranks to become the Dolphins QB coach.

Mike Maser – Hired today, Maser becomes the offensive line coach.  He was last with the Carolina Panthers in the same position in 2006.
