FINAL UPDATE: 5:30 PM: O.k folks, the last bit of news from me today is that the Jaguars officially released DE Paul Spicer and that Jason Brown’s new deal should be announced any time now. It’s been a long day with a late night last night so with that I am taking a break…:) Will be back on later tonight or tomorrow. BTW – Look for Matt Cassel to be traded to the Chiefs sometime today, it’s not a rumor but my own speculation. Something doesn’t sit right with the Vrabel deal. Makes little sense to me somethings up.
UPDATE 5:06 PM: The New Orleans Saints have signed Jonathan Vilma to a 5 year 34 million dollar deal with 17 mill guaranteed. The Rams are reportedly close to inking Jason Brown who apparently would rather have the money than victories…and no, that was not intended as a joke.
UPDATE 4:51 PM: Free agent WR Reggie Williams (Jacksonville) has been arrested for DWI and possession of Marijuana. Both charges are misdemeanors.
UPDATE 4:50 PM: Jason Brown is apparently not happy with the Rams offer of 7 million per year. Well, he is happy with it but he isn’t thrilled with it being the Rams and no one else is stepping up to offer the same. He now has to decide if he wants to take less money and go to a team that is a winner or go to the Rams and bank the large sum of money. Kerry Collins has re-signed with the Titans and Ray Lewis of Baltimore may now be trying to head back to Baltimore after a rather lackluster free agent appearence. The Broncos have signed Correl Buckhalter and JJ Arrington. The Bengals have signed RB DeDe Dorsey. The Lions have signed RB Maurice Morris. RB Derek Ward will visit Cincy on Saturday.
PHINS UPDATE 3:10 PM: The Dolphins have signed Joe Berger formerly of the Cowboys and Dolphins to a 3 year deal. Berger can play both guard and center but has only played in a total of 7 games in his career. 3 of those came last year…he started none. Berger is 6-5 310 pounds. No contract details yet. The Ravens are now offering Bart Scott 2 million more than the Jets.
UPDATE 3:02 PM: In what can only be described as bliss, the Jets are not only on the verge of losing Bart Scott should the Ravens match their offer, but the Pittsburgh Steelers have now swiped G Chris Kemoeatu out from under them. The Jets and Kemo had agreed to a deal and before it was signed the Steelers jumped and offered a 20 million dollar contract over 5 years. The Jets offer was a bit more but Kemo figured he would stay with a winner.
Update 3:01 PM: The Chiefs and Patriots have finished their deal for Mike Vrabel. Terms undisclosed for now.
UPDATE 3:00 PM: Had to run the kids back…Apparently the Bart Scott deal isn’t etched in stone just yet. He is now telling the Ravens he will resign with them if they match the Jets offer. Keep your fingers crossed. The Dolphins will work out former Seminole receiver De’Cody Fagg on Monday. Fagg tore his knee up in last years combine and the Phins will work him out to see if he is worth taking a chance on. The Kansas City Chiefs are close to trading for LB Mike Vrabel. WHY? Isn’t he old and on the edge of being out of the league by wheelchair? Why would they trade for him? Oh yeah, Scott Pioli.
UPDATE 1:44 PM: Chris Kemoeatu has signed a 4 million dollar a year deal with the Jets. Chris Canty is headed to Tennessee. Philly’s Brian Dawkins is heading to Denver.
UPDATE 1:17 PM: Bryant McFadden headed to Arizona for a visit.
UPDATE: 1:00 PM: Laveranues Coles is heading to Buffalo today to talk with the Bills. Jacksonville has RE-SIGNED…LOL…Center Brad Meester.
UPDATE: 12:37 PM: The Ravens have signed CB Dominque Foxworth, 16 million of his deal is guaranteed. Derek Ward is being wooed by Cincy and Detroit. Jim Kleinsasser the Vikings TE has received 4 contract offers since the start of FA. WR Devery Henderson is drawing interest from Tampa who at last report were 61million under the salary cap.
UPDATE: BREAKING NEWS: The Tampa Bucs have traded for TE Kellen Winslow. The Browns will receive draft pick compensation and will have to now deal with disgruntled WR Braylon Edwards who wants a new deal.
12:24: The Raven cut DE Marques Douglas and the Titans are looking at DT/NT Dwayne Robertson formerly with the Broncos.
UPDATE 12:16 PM: The Redskins have released CB Shaun Springs. The Jets have offered a free agent deal to Pittsburgh Guard Chris Kemoeatu. The Steelers have a 4 million a year deal on the table with the lineman now. More money for a team that was supposedly a little cap strapped. The Oakland Raiders have entered the Jason Brown fray which means that Brown will now likely get a 100 million dollar contract…for one year…I’m kidding but would you doubt Al Davis?
UPDATE 10:37 AM: LB Michael Boley of the Falcons will be visiting the NY Giants as will Seattle lineman Rocky Bernard. Boley is 2nd tier LB who many NFL experts predict is ready to breakout. OT Stacey Andrews has signed a deal with the Eagles. The deal is worth around 7 million a year…once again JASON BROWN is asking for the same amount if not more as a Center.
UPDATE 12:13 PM: O.k. back from taking my son and his friends to lunch so I have a couple of hours until I take everyone home. The Scott deal with NY is 5 years 40 million, don’t know the guarantee yet. They have spent a ton of money in the last two years on free agents.
Continue to page 2 for this mornings updates.
UPDATE 10:28 AM: CB Eugene Wilson of the Houston Texans has resigned with the Texans.
UPDATE: 10:12 AM: The New Orleans Saints are now the frontrunners for STL CB Ron Bartell. There will be a break in updates while I pick up my son from pre-school. I know, I’m a freaking worthless slacker.
UPDATE: 10:03 AM: TJ Houshmandzadeh didn’t hear back from Philly and is now apparently on his way to Seattle.
UPDATE: 9:48 AM: Ray Lewis has said that he will not likely return to the Ravens. Perhaps a ploy to get them to spend more money on him. CB Corey Ivy is expected to sign with the Jets. The Jets deal with Scott is apparently worth 8 million a year. Jason Brown is not expected to visit anyone other than the Rams. The Patriots have signed FA TE Chris Baker formerly of the Jets.
UPDATE: 9:33 AM: Bart Scott has finalized a deal with the NY Jets. Details will be provided as they are available.
PHINS UPDATE: 9:26 AM: Andre Goodman and the Phins are stalled in talks and it appears that he will go elsewhere if things don’t change. Goodman reportedly is seeking a 5 million dollar a year salary…CHOKE…Say what??? If that number is true, definitely let him go…he won’t find that anywhere and the Redskins have no more money to blow.
UPDATE: 9:10 AM – Fred Taylor is now a NE Patriot. The Washington Redskins who spent over 155 million in a matter of hours with the signings of DeAngelo Hall and Albert Haynesworth have canceled their scheduled visit with Cowboy DE Chris Canty. Canty will now head to Tennessee. The Dolphins are no longer interested. TJ Houshmandzadeh may be heading to Philly, or I should say he wants to play in Philly.
Update: 9:00 Am – CB Leigh Bodden has scheduled a visit with the New England Patriots today. Bart Scott, reportedly in route to STL, will visit the New York Jets today. Sage Rosenfelds has been traded to the Vikings for a 4th round pick. Dolphins Safety Renaldo Hill will visit the Denver Broncos.
