Breaking News: Brett Favre is Back
By author
Brett Favre is back and will return for his 20th season in the NFL. Just announced, the #1 leader in overall passing yards (more than 69,000) will return to play for the Minnesota Vikings this season. Favre held a news conference that ended at 1:20pm EST announcing the fact.
Vikings fans across the US are celebrating. In fact, Minnesota nearly beat the New Orleans Saints in the final playoff game and would then have been in the Super Bowl. Notable is the fact that due to a rules change just enacted, a team will no longer be able to win by scoring a field goal on it’s first possession in overtime, which was how Minnesota lost (combined with an untimely interception by the [of late] accurate QB Brett Favre).
Clearly, Favre still, “has it”. At least he did last season.
Dangerous? Yes he has been. But the question is, how much longer can he last at age 41 and now the Grandfather of a new baby in his family….
Impact for the Miami Dolphins? We’ll be playing him this year on Sep 19th at 1pm in Minnesota. Fortunately, at least there will not be any snow up there….
Your reaction? Will Miami be facing another daunting challenge with a top rated NFL passer who seems to still be not only in his prime, but perhaps had his best year ever? Or will this be opportunity for a feeding frenzy with the new Mike Nolan defense and an early win among many for the Miami Dolphins this season?
[Update: 5:20pm EST Apparently Favre’s decision to return was prompted by 3 fellow Viking players who traveled to his home and visited with him within the last 48 hours. They were selected and sent there by the head coach with the mission: get a definitive answer on whether he will play. They came back not just with that answer but with their man. Favre was said (per NFL Network interview) to have been told that the locker room wanted him back and, “would you do it for the players?”. He paused for about 45 seconds before answering and then said, “ok, let’s do it”. He is now in camp with the his teammates and Sage Rosenfels has been moved to the #2 spot.]
