Marshall MIA From Workouts

It’s been a little more than a month since Brandon Marshall’s yearly off-season issue reared it’s ugly head.  That was way back when his wife Michi decided to stab him in his stomach sending him to the ICU ward temporarily.  Still, it’s another off-season that Marshall is not working out with his team.  In his first year with the Dolphins, Marshall missed time recovering from an injury and joined the team in training camp.  This year, while his offensive teammates workout together, Marshall is up north.

It’s hard to fault a player who is missing time with any injury, let alone recovering from a stab wound.  I don’t hold that against him in any way, but it still bares mentioning that Marshall has had off-season issues almost every year since becoming a pro.  It’s been reported that Marshall may be ready to start working out again in the next week or two and it will be interesting to see if he returns to Miami to work with Chad Henne, whom he had a tiff with last year, or if he will simply work out on his own as he tries to rectify his personal situation with his family.

And again, I wouldn’t fault him if family is or will be his priority.  I’m simply pointing out the fact that the Dolphins explosive number 1 WR is not working out with the team and building some much needed rapport with his QB.

Marshall is due 14 mill in guarantees this year if he is on the roster and the Dolphins don’t actually have to keep him as the guarantees won’t kick in unless he is on the roster this year.  However, with the lockout running at a standstill, it’s unlikely the Phins would have time to go shopping for a replacement so Marshall will likely remain a member of the team, not that the team is considering it.  It’s only mentioned as an option that they have at their disposal…for say, the next time something happens during this off-season.

For the now, Miami players continue to meet and Chad Henne continues to work alongside of Jake Long to install Brian Daboll‘s offense while the owners meet for the spring meetings to discuss who knows what.

Marshall’s absence is understandable but it also hurts the team.  The Phins need Henne and Marshall to get on the same page.  Hopefully Marshall returns to Miami when he is cleared and ready to start working out and joins the team in training.

Henne has talked with Marshall according to a Miami Herald report:

"• Henne spoke to Brandon Marshall, who is recovered from surgery after being stabbed in the abdomen by his wife. “He’s up in Boston and we’ll try to get him back as quickly as we can and start working together,” Henne said. “It’s been tough for him with his family.”Read more: http://www.miamiherald.com/2011/05/22/v-fullstory/2228231/heat-thrives-in-clutch-situations.html#ixzz1NBr5jgCY"
