Reggie Bush Nominated, Long Returns To Practice, & More Dolphins News

Miami Dolphins‘ running back Reggie Bush has been nominated for the Fed-Ex Ground Player of the Week following his 203 yard effort against the Bills.  It’s the first time this season that Bush has been nominated for the award.  Bush has been an electrifying addition to the roster this season and despite the win loss columns he has allowed fans to forget about Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams.  You can vote for the runner by clicking here.

The Dolphins are preparing for the their Christmas Eve day trip to  New England this weekend to face the Patriots.  Many believe this will be the best game to gauge the level of play for QB Matt Moore.  The good news is that Moore may very well have his number one left tackle back in the game as Jake Long has returned to practice following a back injury that sidelined him for the first time last week.  Moore will need to be calculating in his approach to beating the Patriots.

The Patriots have the top offense in the AFC but their defense can be exposed both through the air and on the ground (where Miami’s in control…sorry, I really couldn’t help that.)  The Patriots are prone to giving up big plays and their week run stopping ability sets the Dolphins up to play ball control to keep the Patriot offense off the field.  This could be a big opportunity for both Moore and interim head coach Todd Bowles.

The team will however be playing without LB Koa Misi who has been added to the IR.  Misi has been dealing with a shoulder injury for two weeks.  The placement on IR is less about his injury being severe as it is allowing the team to add another player to the roster.  Todd Bowles did just that.  Practice squad QB Pat Devlin has been added to the roster.

I know a lot of fans believe that it’s important to see what the young guys can do, but understand that many of these players are playing to audition for the next head coach and the head coach himself is auditioning for another job as well.  Either in Miami or out of Miami.  It’s highly unlikely that Bowles will give significant playing time to the younger guys while trying to win his job.  Barring a direct request from owner Stephen Ross (not likely) or the same from Jeff Ireland (possibly), the move won’t mean too much for the Dolphins.  Would be nice to see what the kid can do though.

Moving off the topic of the Miami Dolphins of the present, it seemed that the fans of the Dolphins celebrated far more than the 72 Dolphins, at least in the eyes of the media, after the Green Bay Packers lost to the Chiefs.  In years past, ESPN and others made the Dolphins of 72 out to be bitter old men watching the champagne chill while they waited for the last team to flounder.  The Packers surprising loss to the Chiefs only shows just how hard it is to win it all.  New England can attest to that as well.  Finally however, the Dolphins weren’t vilified for their popping corks all over the media.  Maybe because the media was still in shock over the loss.  Either way, it was a great day to be a Miami Dolphins fan.

For those of you that have never seen the longest game in NFL history, a six quarter marathon between the Miami Dolphins and the Kansas City Chiefs, NFL Network will be airing the game on December 6th.  The AFC Divisional Playoff game in 1971 stands as one of the most heralded games ever in the history of the NFL.  For those of you not wanting to endure yet another Miami loss (Spoiler alert)…no worries, unless history somehow was changed by a DeLorean driving 17 year old, the Dolphins won this one by three.

Want to win a trip to the Super Bowl?  How about a trip to be one of the media credentialed members of “Media Row“?  Motorola and OCNN “Ochocinco News Network, yes it is actually real, are giving away the opportunity for a fan to join Chad Ochocinco on media day and report from Media Row.  You will also receive two tickets to the game that should have no problems attached with the game NOT being held in Dallas this year.  The game is in Indianapolis.
