Miami Dolphins “Random Thoughts”
By Brian Miller
If you have children you have likely seen “Random Dancing” on I-Carly. This is kind of like that. Sort of. O.k not really. As the game inches closer here are some random thoughts on this Thursday morning. Why? Because normally at this time every Thursday I am on a golf course. I’m not today. So I’m lost.
Push “Sam’s” remote now!
1: Last night we saw that the NY Giants defense looked like the Miami Dolphins defense in the final pre-season week. The Giants got gashed by running back DeMarco Murray for 131 yards on the ground while 3rd WR Kevin Ogletree lit up the prime-time kick-off stage event with 114 yards on 8 catches. The first thought was “Wow, the NYG’s defense looks bad what does that say about Miami’?” Well the Dolphins held the Cowboys down for the better part of the first half of their pre-season until Matt Moore chucked a pick-6 in quarter number 2. What does all this mean? Nothing…it’s a random thought.
2: Sticking with the Wednesday night opener the third best receiver on the Cowboys looked better than anything we have seen out of the Miami receivers thus far. It didn’t take long for two Dolphins forums to bring that up and ask the question why hasn’t Jeff Ireland traded for that guy? What does it mean? Nothing...it’s just a random thought…and a bit of laughter at the poster who thinks we should trade for him.
3: With the apparent sinkhole at RG appearing again, Hicks out for the year and Jerry injured, the first thought is why hasn’t the team signed another body there especially when they have one spot open on the roster? The team reached out to guard Jake Scott for a 3rd time but I have to think they are waiting until after this weekend to make a move. Any veteran signed prior to Sunday’s game and is on the roster Sunday will have their 2012 contracts fully guaranteed. The fact that Scott still hasn’t signed anywhere, tells me there is something fishy under the surface. Just another random thought.
4: Hard to get excited for the weekends games especially when every time you click on something about the team it’s negative. But honestly, you can’t say your not thrilled at the prospect of Ryan Tannehill? He is going to struggle but if he can get better as a result…watch out! Another random thought as I sit here and wonder why I’m not on the 4th hole putting for birdie.
5: Was just looking at the Dolphins cap situation to see how much they gained by cutting David Garrard. I haven’t found that yet but I did get a good look at 2013. The Dolphins will have 14 million come off the dead money books next year leaving the team with only 1.5 million of dead money. This year 43 players are taking up dead money space. Next year 16 with the highest amount belonging to Vontae Davis at 1.1 million. That means that the other 15 players account for about 500,000. Just another random thought.
6: Oh, to give you more good news about next year, the NFL salary cap is supposed to jump way over 130 million. The Dolphins as it stands today, will be around 81 million dollars of committed salary. That leaves the team possibly 40 million under the cap come March. Just randomly saying.
7: Just got a Tweet from our new friends over at State of the Texans. They did a “Know Your Opponent” Q&A with our very good friends up at DolfansNYC.com. I was supposed to do it but NYC beat me to it. Great group running both of those sites. Check it out on the link to the title of the Q&A above. Courtesy of a random “Tweet”.
8: Stephen Ross is close to breaking even with the team. Forbes says the Dolphins are worth 1.06 billion an increase of 5%…Ross paid 1.1 Billion for the team and stadium. Randomly surprised it didn’t go down.
9: Ah Ha! Found it, David Garrard’s release added about 1.7 million to our cap space. We are now just under 6 million at 5.7 something. Don’t you love clicking on a random link?
10: That’s it for right now. I forgot what I what was doing when the dog started randomly barking. And I can’t believe I actually used a photo from I Carly.
