My Super Bowl 47 Prediction
Feb 1, 2013; New Orleans, LA, USA; General view of a Vince Lombardi Trophy at the commissioner
This Sunday the NFL two best teams will square off in what is bound to be a hard fought and hard hitting football game. The San Francisco 49ers are set to host the Baltimore Ravens in Super bowl 47. The game will begin at 6:30 and is being played at the Super Dome in New Orleans Louisiana. Many people on television, the radio and even then internet have been going around everyone who they believe will win and why. Well, this is no different. Below, I am going to give you my prediction for this year’s Super Bowl.
First off, I think it is important to congratulate both the 49ers and the Ravens. Both of these two teams definitely earned the respective spot in this year’s Super Bowl. Despite having to very different journeys throughout the playoffs, they both shared the common goal; reaching the Super bowl. The Baltimore Ravens were the underdogs and the 49ers were favored in every game. This game continues that trend. The 49ers are going to be coming in as the favorites to win the game, while the Ravens are going to look to prove everyone wrong, just as they have been doing for the past three games. Unfortunately, I believe that this Cinderella story is finally going to come to a close this weekend. I believe that Colin Kaepernick is going to be too much for the Ravens defense to overcome, and I think that Joe Flacco is going to struggle severely against the quick and very physical defense of the Niners.

Despite only playing in a total of 13 games, I believe that Colin Kaepernick will out-perform, the more experienced quarterback in Joe Flacco. Ever since taking over the job as the head signal caller in San Fran, Colin Kaepernick has been nothing short of perfect. Almost every game in his career, Kaepernick has had a big play at the position, whether it was with his arm or his legs. Kaepernick is arguably the best running quarterback in the game today, and I believe that will cause this Ravens defense too many problems. The Ravens defense is a good one, no doubt about it. But is it going to be good enough to stop the versatile Kaeprnick? I don’t think so. Despite being good defensively, the Ravens defense is aged. Not only are they aged, but they are also thin in key positions such as corner back and defensive end. If the Niners can get the play action pass going for them, there is no telling what type of passing numbers Kaepernick could put up against the corners. A huge match up problem for the Ravens is going to be Vernon Davis. If Davis could get up (we all know he will), Kaepernick is going to have a field day. The Ravens are going to have to make sure they get good pressure up front and good pass rush from the outside linebackers and ends, because if not, Colin Kaepernick will put up some big time numbers.
The other main reason why I think the San Francisco 49ers is going to be hoisting up the Lombardi Trophy is because their defense is going to swarm Joe Flacco. Joe Flacco better be used to taking hard hits from every possible direction, because he is going to be getting pressured from every angle on Sunday. The 49ers defense, led by Patrick Willis, is going to make sure Flacco doesn’t get any easy throws. Look for pass rushers Aldon Smith to have a huge game. Smith, who might just be the best pass rusher in the league, is going to have a huge impact in this game. If you look at the two years the Giants were able to beat the Patriots in this game was because of pass rush. It was hard for Tom Brady to get off, due to great pass rush. Now I know the Giants and the 49ers aren’t the same team, but when it comes to the pressure they like to get on the quarterback, they are identical. Lined up next to Aldon Smith is going to be players such as Justin Smith, Ahmad Brooks, and Ray McDonald. Not only is the defensive line going to be a challenge for Flacco, but the secondary is possibly an even tougher task for Joe to overcome. The secondary is filled with athletic players that can make a big play at any moment. I know Flacco has played some pretty good defenses during his time in the NFL, but I think this 49ers defense is going to be a little bit too much for Flacco. I don’t think he’ll play awful, but I don’t think he’ll be very good. He’ll be okay, but okay isn’t going to be able to win the Ravens their second Lombardi Trophy.
All in all I think us fans are going to be treated to a pretty decent game. I’m picking the 49ers to win 23-17 in a very physical game.
