The Miami Herald is reporting VIA Barry Jackson that Vonta Leach‘s agent believes that Miami will be his choice to finish his career. It’s safe to point out that this of course is his agent talking and anytime an agent says something it usually has motive behind it. In this case, he could be trying to milk more money from Miami or more money from someone else. It wouldn’t be the first time that an agent has used the Miami Dolphins to get a sweeter deal elsewhere.
Leach has been non-committal on this next stop after being released from the Ravens two weeks ago. To his credit, there is nothing going on in the NFL at the moment so he won’t be practicing, won’t be meeting with coaches, or any of that other stuff. The best he could do is get into the training room and work out and start reading the playbook. Still, hearing an agent talk about his clients likely decision while other suitors are knocking on the door is simply gratuitous at best.
Leach originally said he wanted to make a decision within a week or two but now that timetable has been shelved. A week ago it was reported by the Miami Herald that the Dolphins Joe Philbin wanted a deal done with Leach by the end of the week. Leach denied that anything was close. Philbin coached Leach in Green Bay so there is a history. Leach now entering his 30’s is primarily a blocker, but a very good one. He has made the Pro-Bowl and is considered to be one of the best FB’s in the league. His next contract very well could be his last in the NFL. It would make sense for him to find the perfect fit. The Houston Texans, New York Giants, and Baltimore Ravens are said to still hold interest.
Speaking of the Ravens, according to ProFootballTalk.com, the Ravens took to Twitter to do a little side slapping on the face of Miami fans. Mostly directing their taunts to those who follow the Miami Heat but likely a reminder to the Dolphins and their fans that the Ravens still sit atop the upper elite in the NFL while the Dolphins try to claw their way up from the bottom. “BALTIMORE, sure knows how to throw a party!!!” was sent out by the Ravens after the Heat won back to back Championships and hosted their own parade in Miami.
The problem? While the tweet made clear that Baltimore knew how to throw a party insinuating that Miami didn’t show up the same, 400,000 fans showed up to congratulate the Heat…more than double that of which was estimated for the Ravens. So a big thank you goes out to PFT this morning for seeing this on Twitter, bringing it to everyone’s attention that MIAMI…sure knows how to throw a party!!! Maybe the NFL should have seen this before deciding on the next two Super Bowl sites. Of course we will see how New York throws a party in the middle of winter come February.
