In thirty days the Miami Dolphins will walk onto the field at Fawcett Stadium in Canton, Ohio wearing their new uniforms, sporting their new logo, and flaunting a few of their new team members. Before that happens, they will be sweating it out in the South Florida sun in two-a-day practices. Yes, it’s that time of year, time for football. The long wait is just about over. Sadly, no Hard Knocks to fill your cups with side information. Which means we all have to rely on the local media to feed us and let’s be real, most of them would rather let us starve.
The Dolphins will have a few side stories here and there but for the fans in attendance there is no question that the new look offense will take center stage. Tannehill to Keller. Tannehill to Gibson. Tannehill to Miller. Tannehill to, to, what’s that guys name on the outside? Oh, yeah Wallace. More importantly it’s going to be how will he distribute the ball and can Mike Sherman find the right system of play calling to keep the defense off balance?
Of course the offense isn’t the only unit that has changed. Dannelle Ellerbe and Phillip Wheeler are replacing Karlos Dansby and Kevin Burnett. Sean Smith is gone and a pair of rookie corners will battle with a pair of returning injured veterans. If that were not enough even the FG kicker is going to get pushed into the food grinder by a fifth round pick named Sturgis.
It appears the safest or maybe the more boring camp battles will come at safety where Reshad Jones is simply trying to prove that he is elite and on the D-line where they are trying to prove they are the best. Then there is that Dion Jordan guy and who knows where he will line up. It all adds up to one thing and one thing only.
FOOTBALL!
It’s back, a couple more weeks and the doldrums are over and the countdown to the season begins. As much as everyone hates pre-season games, it’s amazing how many of us can’t wait to see them again each year!
