Number 5: Mike Pouncey and Aaron Hernandez
You would think that the Aaron Hernandez double murder charge would be the most talked about new in the NFL of 2013. It wasn’t. We’ll get to that. While it seemed as though the Hernandez debacle was a New England Patriot problem it didn’t take long for Hernandez’ former teammate Mike Pouncey to hear his name called. Following the Dolphins first meeting with the Patriots in New England, Pouncey was handed a subpoena by the states Grand Jury for questioning regarding Hernandez’ suspicion of state to state gun running. Suddenly a New England problem became a Miami problem.
On December 11th Pouncey missed practice to attend the Grand Jury questioning.
Early in the year following Hernandez’ arrest, Pouncey and his twin brother Maurkice were photographed wearing “Free Hernandez” hats at a nightclub. The picture went viral and Maurkice Pouncey issued a public apology out of Pittsburgh. Mike released no such statement to the press publicly or through the team.
