The Miami Dolphins were a penciled in favorite to draft Notre Dame TE Tyler Eiffert with the 12th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. As the first two lineman came off the board at one and two, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced that Miami was now on the clock. Most immediately expected the Dolphins to grab the only remaining top end offensive tackle. Instead, the Dolphins’ Jeff Ireland shocked the NFL world with his selection of Oregon DE/LB Dion Jordan.
Jordan, the top rated LB and pass rusher in the draft was a surprise to most if not all of those following the draft. More surprising was the cost Ireland gave up to move nine draft slots. An early 2nd round pick.
Jordan came to Miami for training but showed up still nursing a shoulder injury that kept him out of almost all training camp. He re-aggrevated the injury during a pre-season game but was healthy at the start of the season. At least somewhat. Jordan played the most snaps of any Dolphins rookie but his time on the field was still very limited and while he showed flashes of speed, agility, and ability, he was never left in a game long enough to develop any consistent patterns or gain a rhythm.
