Week 1 Miami Dolphins Vs. New England Patriots Fact Or Fiction?

facebooktwitterreddit

The Miami Dolphins will play host to the New England Patriots on Sunday. It’s the first 1:00 game hosted by the Dolphins on opening day since 2008 when they faced the New York Jets. In 2011 the team faced the Patriots to open the season but that game was on Monday night. The Dolphins lost. Since 2008 the Dolphins have only opened at home twice.

So what will the first week bring the fans who finally get to see the team return to the field in a meaningful game? Let’s take a look at some of the facts and some of the fiction.

Lamar Miller will be the teams starter: Fiction

The Dolphins may opt to announce Lamar Miller when the team exits the tunnel but there is no question that free agent running back Knowshon Moreno will make a bigger impact on the game. The two will alternate but it’s likely that Moreno, barring injury, will get more touches.

Ryan Tannehill and Mike Wallace are working after hours: Fact

Both Ryan Tannehill and Mike Wallace have spent several practices all training camp working after practice on their deep ball chemistry. In addition to the work on the field, the two have reviewed game film as well.

Tom Brady has a lower calf injury and may miss the game: Fiction

Bill Belichick has said nothing, literally, of Tom Brady’s calf injury and yesterday Brady was not at practice. Brady has said he is fine and will play on Sunday. Bill Belichick deliberately refused to confirm that. Today Brady participated only for a short time and is listed officially as questionable.

Rob Gronkowsi is going to be limited on Sunday: True

Reports today indicate that while Gronkowski will play he will be on a snap limit and will be monitored throughout the game.

The Dolphins will be thin at linebacker: True

The Dolphins will not have Phillip Wheeler or Jordan Tripp for the game on Sunday. Wheeler is out with a thumb injury and Tripp has a chest injury. The Dolphins have not released full details of their injuries. The team will rely on Jason Trusnik and rookie Chris McCain as well as Jonathan Freeney who should draw the start for Wheeler.
