If there is a game of the week for Dolphins fans, outside of the one with the Baltimore Ravens, this one is it. A loss to San Diego will set the stage for the biggest game the Dolphins have played since who knows when. Miami would travel to New England next week in a showdown for the AFC East. A win this week by the Dolphins and a loss by the Patriots puts Miami one game back of New England and thanks to the early season victory, a Miami win next week puts the Dolphins in the driver seat for the division. New England currently sits atop the AFC and holds the home field advantage edge at the moment.
Following today’s game the Patriots will face the Dolphins, Bills, and Jets to wrap their season so this is the best chance Miami has to see the Patriots drop a game towards them. If the Patriots win today all is not lost as the San Diego Chargers hold the 5th seed and the Dolphins hold the head to head against the Chargers so Miami could conceivably move into the 5th seed today but the eyes of the Dolphins faithful will not be cheering for a Patriots win. This is the game of the day. So much so that the Patriots left Green Bay after last weekends game and traveled to San Diego. The team did not fly home.
