Linebackers and secondary

Jelani Jenkins has been one of the best surprises this year for the Dolphins. So surprising that he was getting national attention for his play. With Dannell Ellerbe out for the year and Phillip Wheeler and Koa Misi nursing injuries, Jenkins stepped up and earned a right to play as a starter. The Dolphins however are not done yet and Jenkins should be the build around player on the unit.

Wheeler and Ellerbe should not be back and Miami should overhaul the linebacker position. They could use two new starters and should address the position in the draft. They need to build this defense forward. The problem is that the team will be investing in  players to play their scheme now and after the 2015 season there is no guaranteed that this system will still be used but you have to play for now.

Moving back a unit the secondary needs someone to work opposite Brent Grimes. Grimes is great but the rest of the corners have a long way too go. Jamar Taylor showed he is getting better and while Cortland Finnegan surprised a lot of people this year he is an impending free agent and may not return and might not need to. The Dolphins can address this in the draft early or address it in free agency. If they are very confident in Jamar Taylor then they need to commit to him being their guy.

Safety will be an issue as well where Louis Delmas will be a free agent. Delmas played well enough this season when he was healthy but wasn’t a game changer. On a one year deal as well the Dolphins need to upgrade their deep secondary heading into 2015.
