Mike Sherman is released from his contract at the Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator. Rumors began a few days earlier when it was reported that in-fighting between Dawn Aponte who had aligned with Joe Philbin and GM Jeff Ireland was paving the way for Sherman’s firing. At the time of Sherman’s firing, it was reported that Joe Philbin had seriously considered quitting the franchise over the order to fire his mentor. The media said that it was at the urging of Sherman that Philbin remain because other coaches would be affected.

Mike Sherman became the first casualty of the 2013 season.
