A day after Mike Sherman was shown the door by Joe Philbin, Jeff Ireland was released from his contract as well. It was reported by the media that owner Stephen Ross wanted Jeff to take a cut in the amount of control he had on personnel but Ireland declined and the two mutually agreed to part ways. Much to the thrill of many Miami Dolphins fans. With Ireland no longer in Miami the Dolphins needed to open up a search for a new GM. Ireland had been a product of Bill Parcells and took a huge shot to the face when the accompanied Ross to San Francisco to woo Jim Harbaugh.
