The Miami Dolphins have a new defensive tackle signing former Detroit Lion C.J. Mosley. To make room on the roster they released defensive tackle Kamal Johnson according to reports on Twitter.

The move was not unexpected as Miami had offered the 31 year old 11 year vet a contract earlier in the day. It was reported yesterday that Mosley had a very good workout with the team. The signing will also put Mosley back on the line next to Ndamukong Suh who he played with for the last two seasons.

  • Mosley played three seasons with the New York Jets during the Mike Tannenbaum years so it was assumed after yesterdays workout that he may get offered a deal.

In his 10 seasons thus far, Mosley has registered seven forced fumbles, three passes defensed, 136 tackles, and 51 assists. He also has registered 14 sacks. The addition of Mosley makes the Dolphins defensive line deep but also puts young tackles at risk of not making the final 53 man roster.

A.J. Francis, Deandre Coleman, and Anthony Johnson could be fighting for one or possibly two spots on the roster with Suh, Mosley, and Earl Mitchell likely having the top three tackle spots along with rookie second round pick Jordan Phillips. If the Dolphins opt for a five man defensive rotation one of the three mentioned will make the roster. Francis and Johnson are the two players with the best chance of making Miami keep six defensive tackles but one of them could find themselves looking for work.

According to ESPN the deal is for one year but details of the contract are not yet known.
