BREAKING NEWS – Eagles Release Evan Mathis
According to Rotoworld, the following breaking news has been announced:
Eagles released LG Evan Mathis.
This has been a long time coming for Mathis, who wore out his welcome under my-way-or-the-highway coach Chip Kelly. Mathis skipped voluntary workouts the past couple seasons in hopes of a trade or raise from the Eagles. Due a $5.5 million salary in 2015, Mathis wanted more entering his age-34 season. Now hitting the market at this stage of the year, Mathis would do well to make 75 percent of that. The Dolphins, Patriots, and Rams all reportedly expressed some level of interest in Mathis in recent months. When on the field, Mathis is still one of the best guards in the league.

As all Dolphins fans out there know, signing an impact player like Evan Mathis would provide instant credibility to the Dolphins weakest offensive position. The Miami Dolphins organization, players and coaches made an immediate desire to go out and try to sign La’ell Collins, who was then considered the best free agent Guard on the market, you have to think that the same attention has to be placed on Evan Mathis, right?

For the past 3 years, Mathis has been one of the top 5 Guards in the NFL, leading the way for the Eagles top rushing attacks in the NFL. Dennis Hickey and Joe Philbin should be on the phone this morning and bringing him in for a visit. Why not use the same methodology that the Dolphins did for Collins and send the entire O-line to Mathis house and state…Hey…we need you! What can we do to make you a Dolphin.
Furthermore, rumor has it that the Patriots are also going to make a heavy pitch for Mathis. The worst case scenario for the Dolphins to avoid is losing out on Mathis and more importantly losing him to a division rival.
This is a dire need for the Dolphins to address the Guard position where two relatively unknown players are tentative starters; Dallas Thomas and Billy Turner. The Dolphins would be wise to conduct their due diligence and with the added knowledge of Bill Lazor, a former QB coach for the Eagles, you have to think that this is match made in heaven.
