Before there was Dan Marino there was Bob Griese the Dolphins first Hall of Fame quarterback. Griese led his Dolphins to three consecutive Super Bowl appearances and two championships. Through the years Griese’s popularity has not fallen but he has taken a back-seat to Marino in terms of that popularity. Still a voice of the Dolphins who calls the pre-season games and still involved in many other ways with the team Griese has remained one of South Florida’s favorites.
Griese never posted the mass numbers that other quarterbacks have over the years but he didn’t need to. Griese had a great supporting cast that allowed the Dolphins to use Griese’s talents instead of forcing him to play differently. Gritty and smart, Griese became the Dolphins first golden quarterback until his retirement in the early 80’s.
