No. 6 – Tim Foley
From 1970 to 1980, the Dolphins had a versatile defensive back in Tim Foley. For the beginning of his career, Foley played the opposite side of Curtis Johnson in the “No Name Defense” secondary.
Taken with the third round of the 1970 NFL Draft, Foley would appear in every game that season but would become a full-time starter in 1971.
In 1977, Foley switched over to strong safety and continued his great play. In 1978, Foley recorded a career-high six interceptions and his 22 picks ties him for 10th all-time in Dolphins history with Johnson.
Late in his career, Foley was named to the Pro Bowl in 1979. He would only start in four games in his last campaign in 1980 and played in seven contests. During his career, he would pick off 22 passes, recovered eight fumbles, and about 510 tackles.
However, Foley played in 134 games, and started in 110, which ranks him second all-time among defensive backs.. He would earn his only Pro Bowl appearance later on in his career. In his last full season as a starter, Foley made about 100 tackles, defended 12 passes, and registered two interceptions in 1979 earning him a spot in the NFL’s all-star festivities.
