No. 5 – Glenn Blackwood
One half of the vaunted “Bruise Brothers” with his younger sibling Lyle, Glenn Blackwood is one of the best strong safeties in Dolphins history and one of the linchpins of the “Killer B’s” defense.
Miami selected Blackwood with the 215th overall pick in the 1979 NFL Draft’s eighth round. He appeared in 11 games that season, but would become the starting strong safety the next campaign.
His 29 interceptions puts him fourth on the all-time Miami Dolphins career leaders list while his 398 return yards has him seventh.
He would appear in 118 games, 106 of which he would start. He start in every playoff game he appeared in and recorded four interceptions in those 11 postseason outings. This includes a two-interception contest in the AFC Divisional round against Dan Fouts and the San Diego Chargers. Blackwood’s two picks helped the Dolphins win that round and move on to the Super Bowl XXVII.
Blackwood had back-to-back six interception seasons in 1984 and 1985, but was never selected for the Pro Bowl or the All-Pro teams.
