Punters
No. 1 – Brandon Fields
Brandon Fields is made for punting. In the game of field position, there is no one better to call than a man named “Fields.”
Even though he’s still an active player, his numbers are simply staggering. His career low in yards per punt average is 43.2. Since 2009 that number hasn’t fallen below 46 yards per punt.
After eight seasons with the Dolphins, Fields already leads the franchise charts in punting yards (27,731) and yards per punt (46.8).
His Pro Bowl season of 2013 is the best single season outing by a punter in team history. His 4,150 yards leads the single season list and his 48.8 yards per punt that season is second only to his 50.2 mark from 2012.
Fields not only has the best average in team history, he has the best three single season averages and has six punting campaigns in the top 10.
In terms of total punting yards, he has six seasons that have cracked the all-time top 15 benchmark.
Fields making the Pro Bowl only once is an absolute joke. Yes, it’s the Pro Bowl and no one cares all that much, but Fields should receive more credit than he does. The man continues to change the scope of football games with his leg. Too bad his teammates have never really taken true advantage of that.
Roby was a fantastic punter, probably one of the best ever to play the game. However, Fields is the best punter in the franchise’s history and his legacy continues to grow. After all, we get to see him flip the field again this season since he agreed to restructure his contract.
