Miami Dolphins camp update: Injuries
By Andrew Eisch
Following Friday’s Miami Dolphin’s scrimmage at Florida International University, the Dolphins picked up with training camp practice on Sunday, before heading to Chicago for their opening preseason game against the Chicago Bears. Before then, the Dolphins will conclude practices today, Monday and Tuesday before traveling to Chicago. When looking at player availability for the preseason opener, here are a few notable injuries, and their progressions.
Branden Albert
Nearly every Dolphins fan remembers Branden Albert’s gruesome injury last season that sidelined him for the remainder of the season, and ultimately regressed his 2015 training. But one good note for Albert and Dolphins fans is that his knee is progressing, and he is seeing more rehab time on the field because of it. Albert won’t likely see much time throughout the preseason, however, it sounds like he will be available for week one.
Kenny Stills
First year Dolphin Kenny Stills was sidelined for today’s practice due to a sore calf muscle. Stills has missed numerous practices due to this injury, but looks to be available for reps in preseason games. Stills, along with Shamiel Gary and Koa Misi also missed practice today due to injury.
Koa Misi & Jelani Jenkins
As already noted, Koa Misi missed today’s practice due to an ongoing calf injury. Misi has struggled staying healthy in previous years, in turn, providing valuable reps for players like Kelvin Sheppard. Sheppard has been notably getting more reps at MLB.
Meanwhile, another linebacker in Jelani Jenkins notably had a wrap around his thigh/groin area after the conclusion of Friday’s practice, according to ESPN’s James Walker. However, Jenkins didn’t miss any practice time on Sunday, and looks to be in good condition heading into Thursday’s opener.
Dallas Thomas & Jason Fox
Dolphin’s offensive guard Dallas Thomas notably missed most of last week’s practice due to a sore shoulder sustained throughout camp. Thomas returned to practice today to find reps behind Jamil Douglas early on in practice, but later shared time with Douglas later in practice.
Jason Fox was a mystery to fans on Friday after sitting out the team’s scrimmage. Many speculated Fox was sitting out due to injury, however, it appears Fox returned to practice on Sunday, no word on any injury conditions.
Other notable injuries include rookie wide receiver Devante Parker who had surgery on his foot earlier this summer. Parker has been seen at practices rehabbing, but will not see any time throughout training camp, and likely will miss the entire preseason. Similar story for Dolphin’s safety Don Jones, who has missed the entire training camp schedule so far. Both Parker and Jones were placed on the physically unable to perform list (PUP) prior to training camp. Parker looks to be healthy for the week one opener against the Washington Redskins, while their is no timetable set for Jones’ return yet.
