Allen Hurns is starting to become a very valuable receiver on a young Jacksonville offense. Last week Hurns caught five passes for 60 yards and while his receptions were not the most on the team, his yardage was. Hurns has become the go to guy for Blake Bortles and thus far they are developing nicely. Hurns is 6’3″ and 205 pounds and plays fast. He has a natural ability to use his body to shield off defenders and has good hands.
Hurns was un-drafted in 2014 and signed with the Jaguars as a free agent. During the 2014 season Hurns saw plenty of action recording a team high 677 yards receiving on 51 receptions, the 2nd highest on the team behind now Texan receiver Cecil Shorts. In 2014 the Jaguars drafted two wide-receivers in the 2nd round. Allen Robinson and Marquise Lee. Lee, due mainly to injuries has been unimpressive thus far and Robinson is being outplayed by the un-drafted sophomore.
What makes Hurns a top player to defend this week is that he will likely be the first look receiver for Bortles and his first option when in trouble. Bortles trusts Hurns and will target him often. Taking away this passing threat will force Bortles to go elsewhere or to dump off.
