The Miami Dolphins could do a lot worse than the kick the college tires. Their last adventure into the college ranks left them searching for answers. Jimbo Fisher however is not Nick Saban. Over his six years as head coach of the Florida State Seminoles, Fisher has a record of 61-11. The shame of those 11 losses…tsk, tsk, tsk.

The truth is that Fisher is one of the best offensive minds in college football and can bring that same level of energy and consistency to the NFL. The biggest question is he truly wanting to come to the next level? The Dolphins would be taking a risk recruiting from the college ranks but it’s possible that Fisher may view his college days behind him if he gets the right team and right offer from the NFL.

I wouldn’t throw all the darts at the board to land Fisher but I would definitely make a call and gauge his interest. Fisher is also going to want total control and that is always something that teams typically balk at. Considering the money and time invested in Mike Tannenbaum, it’s unknown and maybe even unlikely that the two could work together if Tannenbaum doesn’t give up some of the say over the team.

Still, it’s worth a shot to at least get an idea of where his head is at.

For what it’s worth, don’t be surprised if the name Eric Mangini surfaces at some point should Philbin lose his job. Both Tannenbaum and Stephen Ross have close relationships with the current tight-end coach.
