Round Six

Ed Davis – OLB – Michigan State

Jelani Jenkins is holding up well in his 2nd season as a starter and Koa Misi is playing much harder than we have seen him play in a while. Misi is also going to need to be replaced. Misi will soon be a free agent and the Dolphins need to make a decision on his future sooner rather than later. For now Misi is serviceable but it’s hard to imagine him ever becoming anything more than what he is right now. That’s not to say that Davis is the answer. He is a project and doesn’t solve the problem of replacing Misi if he leaves.

Davis is a 6’3″ 233 lb 4-3 linebacker with good vision and instinct but needs to work on his technique and coverage skills as an NFL linebacker will need to be worked on.

Round Seven

It’s really too difficult to understand who will be available, who will go un-drafted, and actually who will even be ranked close enough to a 7th round pick. The Dolphins have a propensity under Dennis Hickey to go small school and at this point in time only Hickey and his scouts are likely to be watching most of the small schools that most fans have never heard of.

My guess is we will see a defensive tackle/end, maybe a quarterback, and more likely offensive lineman. Since this is a mock draft and I really should throw some names out there, I will peg the Dolphins to take the following in round seven.

Jamile Naff – OG – TCU

Hatari Byrd – FS – Oklahoma

Remember folks, these are very early projections and players will most assuredly rise and fall like the sun every morning and night. The selections I made are based on need and current play and assume that the Dolphins will be picking in the top five of each round. If a player I selected is ranked higher than where I have them, remember that they could just as easily fall and while a player I have may be higher than many expect, he too can just as easily rise.

I tried my best given the early college season to explore options and positions that the Dolphins need to address and to use the words of our favorite current head coach Joe Philbin, “there is no magic potion”. Yes he said that after the loss to Buffalo on Sunday in week three.
