On September 23rd, 2001 the NFL returned to action following the terrorist attacks on 9-11. The Dolphins squared off against the Oakland Raiders with Jay Fiedler at the helm. The Raiders led deep into the 4th quarter 15-10. With .05 seconds left in the game, quarterback Jay Fiedler dropped back to pass and found a heavy blitz from the Raiders defense. Fiedler scrambled and then took off up field where he was hit but continued to bull his way across the goal line.

His stretching out for the touchdown would give the Dolphins the victory. Fiedler, while not a very accurate or consistent quarterback, was very tough and this game proved it. Fiedler is remembered for a lot of things but this game stands out to be one of his best efforts physically.

The Dolphins would finish the 2001 season 11-5 but would lose to the Baltimore Ravens in the wild card round.
