The Miami Dolphins traded two first round draft picks for Ricky Williams and got a lot of running from the stellar athlete. They also got a lot of headaches. Williams himself could easily fill 50 moments on his own. From the trade that brought him to Miami from New Orleans to his on again off again retirements and suspensions.

When Williams was on the field he was electric. In his seven seasons in Miami, Williams rushed for over 6,400 yards and scored 48 times on the ground and six receiving. Williams however couldn’t stay away from the off-field issues that plagued his careers. Williams failed several NFL drug tests for marijuana which led to three suspensions and a trip to the CFL for one season. In 2004 Williams announced that he was retiring from football one week prior to the start of the season. It was later revealed that he would serve a suspension for a drug test failure.

In 2002 Williams averaged 115.8 yards per game and rushed for over 1,800 yards on 383 attempts. It led to his only pro-bowl appearance.

For all his problems, Williams is still considered one of the best Miami Dolphins runners in history. A title that would likely be recognized more prominently by the team if not for the off-field issues that plagued his career in Miami.
