The Miami Dolphins entered a late season Monday night game against the New England Patriots in 2004 with an interim head coach and A.J. Feely at quarterback. The Patriots were 12-1 and the Dolphins were out of the post-season picture and heavy underdogs to the powerful Patriots.
Miami entered the game 3-11 and losers of five of the last six. Dave Wannstedt had resigned and Jim Bates was the interim head coach. New England was coming off a thrilling Super Bowl victory the previous season and on their way to another Super Bowl in 2004. The Patriots scored a touchdown in all four quarters and led the Dolphins late in the 4th 28-17 with just over three minutes left in the game.
The Dolphins scored a touchdown with 2:00 minutes left in the game on a Sammy Smith run but failed at the two point conversion. Miami would get the ball back and would drive the field scoring on a Jay Feely 22 yard touchdown pass with only a minute left in the game. Shocking the Patriots.
On the game Tom Brady was picked off four times and sacked twice as Jason Taylor applied constant pressure all game long.
