At the end of the 1984 season the Miami Dolphins face off against the Dallas Cowboys. Miami has a lock on the playoffs and enter the game 13-2 with the best record in the NFL. The Cowboys on the other hand need a win to make the post-season. In the Monday night finale, Dan Marino throws four touchdown passes setting his season total at 48. Then an NFL record that many believed would not be broken.
In addition Marino finishes the season with over 5,000 passing yards, the first to ever throw for more than 5,000 yards in a season. Since broken. The Dolphins would beat the Cowboys 28-21 and finish the regular season 14-2 their best regular season record in team history. Miami would eventually advance to the Super Bowl but lose to the San Francisco 49’ers in Dan Marino’s only Super Bowl appearance.
