Sean McDermott

Currently – defensive coordinator Carolina Panthers

Like Mike Shula, Sean McDermott is going to get a lot of suitors this off-season if the Panthers finish undefeated. McDermott has shaped the Panthers defense into a very good team with only a few big playmaking stars.

McDermott spent most of his coaching days in Philadelphia holding several coaching positions including defensive coordinator. He began his coaching career in 1999. Since 2011 he has been in Carolina serving as the teams defensive coordinator. In fact, combining his time between both teams, McDermott has been a DC since 2009.

McDermott is viewed as ready for the next step but will he get a nod this year? His teams have consistently played well over his career as a DC and that should be enough to get him more interviews for vacancies. He needs to hit one of those out of the park.
