Dolphins Ryan Tannehill calls Twitter rant a distraction

The Miami Dolphins have one more game and they can slide into the off-season. What happens next is anyone’s guess but already there is drama. Ryan Tannehill has said that the Miko Grimes Twitter rant against him is indeed a distraction.

The level of which this “distraction” is, well isn’t known. Both Tannehill and Brent Grimes were interviewed earlier in the week and the questions were all about the rant that Brent’s wife made. Head coach Dan Campbell downplayed a locker room divide and said that he wasn’t worried of it creating a distraction.

"“Honestly at this point I’ve heard what she said and I don’t really want to give it the time of day,” Tannehill told reporters. “It doesn’t affect the way I think about myself or the way that I go about my business and prepare to win games. The saddest part about the whole thing is that we have to answer questions about it and it’s becoming a distraction to myself, this organization and this team. Other than that, it’s just business as usual and nothing has changed for me.”"

Tannehill is right about one thing, spending time answering questions about the incident is indeed a distraction and only permeates any tension that may be brewing in the locker room. Of course in another week none of that will matter until the team regroups during off-season workouts. There is a lot of speculation that Grimes will be asked to take a pay cut or at minimum restructure his deal. Tannehill is under contract at least through the 2016 season so this could technically became a problem next season.

Whomever the next head coach will be there is an apparent problem that he will have to deal with. To say nothing of the depth and talent on the team or the salary cap issues. All of this doesn’t point to there being a problem only the embers of a flame that could eventually ignite. It’s not something the Dolphins or the fan base wanted to hear finishing out an exceptionally disappointing season.

Brent was forced to defend his wife’s comments and basically said there is no issue because those are not his words and that he doesn’t tell her what to say. That has been spitfire by Omar Kelly who told a radio station that Miko does nothing without Brent’s approval. Tannehill has said that Brent apologized to him about the comments.

The Dolphins likely can’t wait to get this season over with. And then concentrate on not making more news in their search for a new head coach.
