2016 NFL Mock Draft number 2
By Dan Heaning
- Carolina Panthers
Corey Coleman – WR – Baylor
Based on need, the Panthers could use another wide receiver more than another defensive line playmaker.
Carolina’s top three receivers are over 30 and the wideout position desperately needs an injection of youth. Plus, Cam Newton actually needs a wide receiver to throw to as tight end Greg Olsen has 33 more receptions and nearly 400 more yards than the next leading receiver (Ted Ginn Jr.).
Coleman adds a big play element that may go missing as Ginn Jr. gets older and continues to miss more than half of his targets (97 targets, 44 catches this season).
The Panthers could use some help at defensive end too and there are still plenty of quality players still left to take. But the need for a wide receiver may be too much for Carolina to pass up.
The New England Patriots do not have a first round pick this upcoming draft as it was part of the “deflate-gate” punishment imposed by the NFL.
