A look at the new Dolphins coaching staff

Coaching since 1999
Joseph’s first coaching gig came in 1999 as a GA for the Colorado Buffaloes, a position he would hold until 2001. He would join Wyoming in 2002 as the defensive backs coach and would return to Colorado a year later in the same position. In 2004 he moved to Bowling Green before making the jump to the NFL with the 49’ers as their defensive backs coach. In his NFL time he has only coached defensive backs holding the position for the 49’ers, Texans, and most recently the Bengals. He will be a first time defensive coordinator at any level in 2016. He played two seasons in the NFL with the Jets and Colts.
Defensive Lines: Terrell Williams
Coaching since 1998
Williams coached the defensive line at Fort scott CC in 1998 and moved to North Carolina A&T in 1999 before moving to Youngstown State, then Akron, Purdue, and Texas A&M. In 2012 he got his first NFL job as the defensive line coach for the Raiders and held the position until 2014. In 2015 he joined the Dolphins staff and will remain with the team in 2016.
Linebackers: Matt Burke
Coaching since 2001
Burke coached three seasons on the college level before joining the Detroit Lions as a linebacker coach. The Lions were ranked 6th against the run during his time with the team. He spent five seasons with the Titans coaching staff prior to joining the Lions. In 2014 the Bengals hired Burke to coach their linebackers.
Assistant LBs – Charlie Bullen
Coaching since 2007
Bullen was a volunteer student coach at Iowa while earning his Bachelors degree in finance. He spent five seasons with the Hawkeyes before joining the Dolphins staff in 2012, his first full-time coaching job on any level. He is one of the retained members from Joe Philbin’s staff.
Defensive Backs – Lou Anaraumo
Coaching since – 1989
Anarumo interviewed for the job of DC with the Jacksonville Jaguars in the last month. He returns to the Dolphins in the same role he held previously before being elevated to defensive coordinator. He began his coaching career at Wagner College coaching running backs and made his first jump to the NFL in 2012 as part of Joe Philbin’s staff. He had previously coached defensive backs at Marshall, Harvard, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and Syracuse.
Senior Defensive Assistant – Jim Washburn
Coaching since 1976
Washburn began his career in the mid-70’s as a GA at Southern Methodist. He coached in the college ranks, the NFLE ranks, and took on his first NFL job with Houston in 1998 coaching the defensive line. He has had stints with the Titans and Eagles at the same position and was an assistant DL coach with the Lions from 2013 to 2015 before joining Adam Gase’s staff.
Special Teams Assistant: Marwan Maalouf
Coaching since 2000
Maalouf began his career as a volunteer at Baldwin-Wallace. He was a writer for Scouts, Inc. and wrote game reviews for ESPN. He would join the Ravens coaching staff as an assistant special teams coach in 2008. He spent two seasons with the Browns from 2004-2006 and worked the college route at Rutgers as an offensive line assistant and GA. He coached at Fordham and Baldwin-Wallace as well. Prior to joining the Dolphins in 2013 he was with the Indianapolis Colts as the special teams coordinator.
Quality Control – Chris Kuper
Coaching since 2016
Kuper is making his first run at coaching joining the Dolphins staff as a quality control guy. He played guard for the Broncos from 2006-20013 making the pro-bowl in 2012.
Senior Football Research Analyst – Ken O’Keefe
Coaching since 1976
O’Keefe has a long coaching resume that began in 1976 at New Haven as a GA. His first job in the NFL didn’t come until 2012 when he joined the Joe Philbin staff as the teams wide receiver coach. In his college career he served as OC twice and HC twice for Allegheny and Fordham. Under Adam Gase, O’Keefe has been retained but has been reassigned as a senior analyst.
Football Research Analyst – Blue Adams
Coaching since 2003
Adams, a former player who was drafted in round 7 of the 2003 draft by the Bengals has been coaching since 2003 when he served as a GA for Purdue. He joined the NFL ranks after two college seasons, the 2nd at Northern Iowa coaching defensive backs. His first NFL job was in 2012 with the Dolphins where he was an assistant defensive backs coach. He has been reassigned as an analyst.
