It’s an easy choice for number five and it’s not a copout. Miami simply couldn’t get solid play from Walt Aikens or Michael Thomas in 2015 and the deep secondary load was squarely on the shoulders of Reshad Jones who had his best season as a professional. What would he be capable of if he had real help back there?

Safety is important because they support the corners who we already know struggled. They support the run and for the most part Jones is the only one who really contributed in that area. Miami also lacks a stellar safety that can take the ball out of the air. Jones is more than capable and had two touchdowns last season off turnovers but again, next to him is a problem.

I for one fully expected Michael Thomas to make big gains in 2015 but that did not happen and at some point, Miami is going to need to address this situation. It’s not so bad that the team needs to go big but finding a consistent reliable safety is paramount to the success of the 2016 secondary.
