Miami Dolphins 7 round mock draft
By Brian Miller
Round 3
Su’a Cravens – strong safety – USC
The Dolphins have more needs than just cornerback in their secondary. They need to find help alongside Reshad Jones. Projected to go late 2nd, early 3rd, Cravens could be exactly what the Dolphins need in 2016. Cravens would likely be a day one starter and a possible impact starter as well. He is a strong run defender and has fluidity in his coverage skills. There are parts of his game that need work. He needs to be more clear with his vision of routes but he shouldn’t have any trouble adjusting to the NFL.
The Dolphins could also go with a defensive end here if they didn’t address it already and I wouldn’t rule out another linebacker like insider Kentrell Brothers of Missouri. The Dolphins do need to address two of their positions at linebacker and if they can find two in the draft they would be well above the curve.
Last five third round picks
2015 – No 4th round pick
2014 – Billy Turner: Turner is a physical offensive lineman but after missing his rookie season he has yet to really develop like the Dolphins expected. This could be his last season to prove his value.
2013 – Dallas Thomas: Why Thomas is still on the roster is anyone’s guess. He may not be for 2016.
2013 – Will Davis: The Dolphins had two picks in round three in 2013 and whiffed on both of them. Davis is no longer on the team.
2012 – Olivier Vernon: Vernon is a steal for the Dolphins in the 3rd round but he will become a free agent this off-season if the Dolphins don’t re-sign him. They should give it serious thought.
2012 – Michael Egnew: With their 2nd pick in round three of 2012 the Dolphins took a player who was more interesting because of the berading he took by coaches. I’m not even sure if he is in the NFL anymore.
Six players have been taken in the third round since 2012 and of those players two are gone, one will be a free agent, and one should be gone. Only one of them, Vernon, is a productive starter.
