Round 5

Will Redmons – CB – Mississippi State

Redmond was on pace for a very good 2015 before the tore his ACL and because of that his stock will drop and Miami could find a future starting corner in the 5th round. Redmond is physical which would give the Dolphins an edge corner who can play on the line opposite the receiver and make contact at the snap. He has good recovery skills and had two interceptions before getting injured.

The Dolphins need to find corner help and I suspect they will likely go corners in free agency which would make over drafting a corner in round one unnecessary. The Dolphins, should they be able to find one solid corner on the market and restructure Brent Grimes, can afford to wait for Redmonds to fully recovery before he hits the field.

Previous round five picks

2015 – Bobby McCain: The first of four 5th round picks, McCain is still an unknown

2015 – Jay Ajayi: People were talking about Ajayi being a steal in last years draft. When he finally got on the field, he showed his explosive running ability and could be the 2016 day one starter if Miller leaves via free agency. If Miller stays, the Dolphins will have a big two-headed rushing attack.

2015 – Cedric Thompson: Thompson started the year on the practice squad. He was later released and signed with the Patriots.

2015 – Tony Lippett: Lippett is making full time transition from receiver to corner and saw extended playing time late in the year and he didn’t look all that bad. He has a lot of development ahead of him but there is potential for him to become a reliable back-up in the next two years.

2014 – Arthur Lynch and Jordan Tripp: Neither player is with the team.

2013 – Mike Gillislee and Caleb Sturgis: Neither player is with the team

2012 – Josh Kaddu: Not longer with the team
