Miami Dolphins 7 round mock draft
By Brian Miller
I like to call this the you-pick-em round. It doesn’t really matter who you take so long as you fill a need at one of your back-up positions that have depth problems. Ideally you want someone who will at least be a practice squad option but every now and then, Terrence Fede anyone, you find a player than can make your roster.
Round 7
Luther Maddy – DT – Virginia Tech
In 2015 Maddy registered 57 tackles with 7 for losses. He added 2.5 sacks and is projected as a 4-3 three-technique player. Much like Jared Odrick who left last season via free agency. Maddy could be another A.J. Francis who shows the physical and speed potential to make the roster and then spend time developing.
Previous 7th round picks
2015 – no 7th round pick
2014 – Terrence Fede: Fede has looked good at time when give the opportunity but he isn’t developing as fast as expected. Of course with Cam Wake and Olivier Vernon in front of him, and Derrick Shelby, it’s not a surprise. The fact he made the team and is active on Sundays makes him a good pick in round 7.
2013 – Don Jones: Jones has been on the team and off the team since being drafted. He is currently off.
2012 – Kheeston Randall: Not with the team
2012 – Rishard Matthews: Matthews waited for his turn and when chance came along he took advantage of it. Matthews is going to get a very nice raise in 2016 free agency and the Dolphins will not likely try to match the offer.
NOTABLE:
The Miami Dolphins will enter the off-season with needs at guard, defensive line and defensive end, safety, corner, and linebacker. They may also look to add a running back which was not a part of this mock-draft given the value vs. the teams needs at other positions. One position, quarterback, was left off but I believe we could see a quarterback drafted in the mid-rounds if a top prospect slides a bit or on day three in round six. Miami needs to find someone to compete with Ryan Tannehill and while a 6th rounder will not, he could be a project for down the road.
