With Nick Saban gone, the Dolphins retained Randy Mueller as the teams general manager for the 2007 season. Mueller along with head coach Cam Cameron would stay only one season. Mueller had served as the G.M. previously with Saban on board but Saban called all the personnel shots for the team.

The Dolphins added kicker Jay Feeley and guard Chris Liwienski to the roster in Mueller single season calling the shots. All told the team added six free agents. The others included tight end David Martin and safety Cameron Worrell. Fullback Corey Schlesinger did not make the active roster. While the Dolphins didn’t add much as they purged the roster for salary cap reasons and tried to rebuild the team, they lost seven players total in free agency.

Of the seven players, David Bowens, Jeff Zgonina, Travis Minor, Sammy Morris and Damion McIntosh stood out. None of them were in their prime at the time they were lost and the Dolphins were working on rebuilding both offensive and defensive lines but they failed to get proper players into those positions. Free agency for the Dolphins was a wash and it was throttled by a poor draft class that saw only 7th round pick Brandon Fields have any lasting impact on the roster.
