Final pre-free agency 2016 NFL mock draft
By Brian Miller
-
Miami Dolphins
Myles Jack – LB – UCLA
Linebacker, offensive line, safety, cornerback, all could be drafted with the 8th overall pick and it’s entirely possible that the Dolphins opt instead to draft a defensive end. In fact with the Olivier Vernon situation still fluid, the Dolphins might find themselves with a huge need at defensive end.
For now, both Vernon and Cam Wake are still on the Dolphins roster which leaves cornerback and linebacker their top two first round needs.
Jack is a solid interior linebacker and would immediately improve a unit that struggled last season. Jack missed part of 2015 with a knee injury but he is scheduled to begin running prior to the draft which will help his stock. What the Dolphins need more than anything else is leadership at the position and Jack has that ability. He will also find the transition to the NFL easier with Ndamukong Suh up front. If the Dolphins opt to sign a top free agent middle linebacker than Jack obviously won’t be the pick here and that selection could became a corner or defensive end.
NOTE: After this mock draft was completed the Dolphins tagged Olivier Vernon with the transition tag.
